This helps women connect their experiences to the more broader and systemic problems locally and nationally. SUPPORT GROUPS: Educational support groups facilitated by survivors provide opportunities for women to share their experiences and learn about the systems and effects of exploitation and prostitution. These plans also help to identify steps and barriers, and outline each person’s goals, skills, and dreams. These plans consist of establishing pathways to education, resources, and permanent affordable housing. Our mentors provide safe spaces for women to heal and express themselves without shame or judgment.ĮXIT PLANS: An individualized exit plan is created for and with each woman. These relationships, formed through consistent meetings and shared experiences, are formed on the bedrock of trust and understanding. MENTORSHIP: We create partnerships between women and our peer advocates, in which both are valued for the knowledge they bring. Getting a GED and/or enrolling in educational and vocational programs are key components to opening doors to self-sufficiency and meanful employment. The EVA Center was founded with the inherent understanding that education/training is critical to moving towards self-sufficiency. The second phase allows women and their children to stay from 12 to 14 months. The first 30 days allows for emergency placement, to think about the next steps in their lives, and if they are ready to move on to the second phase. The EVA House provides a two-phrase program. Programs at the EVA Center were designed by survivors, using a holistic approach that recognizes each participant as a whole person who has experiences and strengths to not only change their lives but their communities as well. Our programs work to ensure that women have a place to heal from the inside out, so they can think differently and healthier, reconnect with school and work, gain custody of their children, develop life skills and economic power. Legal options classes and support groups for community clients are also available at the Clovis Safe House site.The EVA House offers gender specific, peer based opportunities for women to exit out of sexual exploitation and build healthier lives. Marjaree Mason Center therapists conduct group and individual therapy, focusing on issues and problem resolution to improve a client’s ability to work through problems move their life deliberately in a positive direction. Residents and community clients also have access to clinical mental health counselors. Safe House residents take part in case management and educational opportunities, learn independent living skills and develop a means of income, all while being helped along in attaining the necessary resources to support their move into domestic violence-free permanent housing. The transitional program helps victims prepare to lead an independent life. This program receives emergency domestic violence crises 24 hours per day, and offers residential transitional living services to women and children. The Clovis Safe House and Community Center is located in the city of Clovis. Supervision is provided by highly skilled staff, dedicated volunteers and with the loving and supportive help of our MMC “foster grandparent” volunteers. Child supervision is provided while moms attend onsite counseling, legal classes, or groups. Adjacent to the Enrichment Center, is a large outdoor play area that children can enjoy. In addition to being a positive and safe place where children can learn, grow and play, the Enrichment Center contains books, puzzles, games, and fun activities for children of all ages. Support is provided through schools, accessing mental health services, and assessing other needs the children may have. The Children’s Enrichment Center at MMC provides support to residential children and collaborates with multiple agencies in Fresno to offer assistance and resources to children. Residential children can also take part in an art group, and can participate in daily activities hosted by staff in the Enrichment Center. MMC offers residents life-skills, parenting, and Expressions Through Art group activities. Case Managers also offer peer counseling, and help clients develop a plan to promote their family’s safety once they return to the community. Case Managers are available to assist families in accessing needed “safe” long-term housing, available resources, social and victim services as well as supporting them in overcoming barriers in their efforts toward living in a domestic violence free environment.
